Zaheer Khan, reflecting on his previous experience working with Rishabh Pant during the Delhi Daredevils days, described Pant as a player who has inspired a new style of cricket. As mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Zaheer emphasized that acquiring Pant and naming him captain was a foundational step toward building a successful franchise.
One potential challenge for LSG in IPL 2025 could be their middle-order lineup featuring multiple left-handers, including Pant, David Miller, and Nicholas Pooran. When asked if this might affect team balance, Zaheer was optimistic, framing it as an advantage.
"It can also be a tactical edge," Zaheer explained. "I haven't focused on how many left-handers we have. What matters is balance, squad depth, and having all bases covered. When I look at our team, it feels like a solid unit."
Zaheer also highlighted the importance of setting a strong foundation ahead of the season. "The pillars of success for any team start with leadership. Rishabh, as captain, will shape the identity of 'Brand LSG' and define the kind of cricket we want to play."
IPL 2025 is scheduled to begin on March 21 at Eden Gardens and will run until May 25. LSG is the second team to announce a new captain for the season, following Punjab Kings' appointment of Shreyas Iyer.
