West Indies Enter Super Six, Malaysia Eliminated in Women's U19 T20WC

West Indies secured their place in the Super Six stage of the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025 with a commanding 53-run victory over hosts Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. Despite a modest total of 112 for 7 in their 20 overs, the West Indies bowlers bundled Malaysia out for just 59, clinching third place in Group A.

Malaysia’s loss marked their exit from the tournament, as they finished at the bottom of the group with three defeats.

Samara Ramnath, the West Indies captain and allrounder, was the star of the match. Though she contributed just 5 runs at the top of the order, she delivered a sensational bowling performance, claiming 4 for 6 in her spell. Her figures rank among the best in the tournament, surpassed only by five-wicket hauls from India’s Vaishnavi Sharma and Scotland’s Maisie Maceira.

Chasing 113, Malaysia were 38 for 2 after 10 overs, but Ramnath triggered a dramatic collapse, reducing the hosts to 59 all out. She claimed four key wickets, all either bowled or lbw, dismantling the Malaysian batting lineup.

Ramnath's second over saw her dismiss opposing captain Nur Daniya Syuhada, who had earlier taken her wicket, and then trapped Nur Izzatul Syafiqa lbw in the same over. In her next over, she bowled Suabika Manivannan, leaving Malaysia reeling.

Support came from fellow offspinners Naijanni Cumberbatch and Erin Deane, who took four wickets between them in quick succession, while Ramnath wrapped up the innings in the 18th over.

Earlier, West Indies struggled with the bat but managed to post a defendable total, thanks to Assabi Callender’s steady 30 off 42 balls.

India and Sri Lanka, who play later in the day, had already secured their places in the next stage, finishing above West Indies in Group A.
