Shivam Dube is set to replace the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy in India's T20I squad for the ongoing five-match series against England. Reddy has been ruled out with a side strain and advised a four-week rest.
Dube will join the squad starting from the third T20I. His last appearance for India was during the ODI series against Sri Lanka in August 2024. He missed India's home T20I series against Bangladesh due to a back injury but returned to form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
There, he scored 151 runs in five innings at an impressive strike rate of 179.76 and claimed three wickets at an economy rate of 9.31.
The all-rounder has represented India in 33 T20Is, scoring 448 runs at a strike rate of 134.93 and picking up 11 wickets. Dube was also part of the squad that clinched the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in 2024.
Recently, Dube played in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, where he had a tough outing, getting dismissed for zero in both innings and taking one wicket. Mumbai eventually lost the game by five wickets.
India currently leads the T20I series against England, having secured a commanding seven-wicket victory in the first match in Kolkata.
Nitish Kumar Reddy's contribution in that game was limited to two catches, as he neither bowled nor batted. The second T20I is set to take place on Saturday evening in Chennai.
