Sanju Samson Takes Charge as India’s T20I Wicketkeeper

Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are not part of India’s current T20I squad with Sanju Samson securing the role of the primary wicketkeeper. Samson’s impressive form in 2024, including three T20I centuries and a strike rate of 180.16, has earned him the spot, while Dhruv Jurel serves as his backup. Addressing the wicketkeeping situation, captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed there’s no ambiguity in the team’s plans.

“At the moment, there’s no question about the wicketkeepers,” Suryakumar said. “Sanju has performed brilliantly in the last 7-10 games, showcasing what he can do. That’s exactly what we expect from all players — to put the team first. He’s grabbed his opportunity and made the most of it, and I’m genuinely happy for him.”

Suryakumar also highlighted the strong bond within the team, which has been building over the past few series. “The atmosphere is fantastic. We had a team dinner yesterday, and this group has been together for 2-3 series now. The players know each other’s preferences and quirks, and this camaraderie will definitely reflect in our on-field performances,” he added.

India continues to fine-tune its T20I squad, with Samson’s consistent performances providing stability in the wicketkeeping department.
