RCB and Gujarat Giants to open WPL 2025 season

The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 is set to begin on February 14, with Gujarat Giants taking on defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the newly constructed BCA Stadium in Vadodara. Originally scheduled for an earlier start, the tournament was pushed back by a week.

This season introduces Lucknow as a new venue alongside Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Vadodara.

The tournament will kick off with six matches in Vadodara, followed by eight games in Bengaluru, four in Lucknow, and the final leg in Mumbai. The CCI Stadium in Mumbai will host the Eliminator on March 13 and the final on March 15.

RCB, last season’s champions, will play four home games at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, known for its lively crowds. UP Warriorz will host three matches in Lucknow, while Delhi Capitals will not have home games this season. All matches are scheduled as single-headers.

The WPL 2025 auction, held in December, proved significant for uncapped Indian players. Mumbai allrounder Simran Shaikh drew the highest bid, securing NR 1.9 crore (approximately USD 223,000).

RCB claimed their maiden WPL title in 2024, defeating Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in the final in Delhi. With a dedicated window in the women’s FTP, the WPL continues to establish itself as the premier women’s franchise league globally.
