PCA Appoints Daryl Mitchell to Lead Players’ Association

Daryl Mitchell has been confirmed as the chief executive of the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), transitioning from his interim role, which he held for the past six months. Mitchell, a former Worcestershire captain with 39 first-class centuries, previously served as PCA chair (2017–2021) before becoming director of cricket operations and later chief operating officer.

His permanent appointment follows a public recruitment process initiated after Rob Lynch stepped down to join MCC as director of cricket and operations.

Mitchell’s promotion comes at a critical time for the PCA, as it seeks to rebuild its relationship with the ECB after a challenging period. The PCA had voiced concerns over a lack of communication regarding key policies, including No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) and the allocation of additional funds in the Hundred’s salary pool. Ongoing issues, such as the structure of the men’s county schedule, have further strained the relationship.

"I am honored to have been trusted by the PCA players' committee and board to lead the association," Mitchell said. "Representing players has been central to my life since I became a PCA rep in 2009. Strengthening ties with players and fostering collaboration are vital to the future of cricket."

Mitchell will also oversee the appointment of a new PCA chair as James Harris’ second term concludes in February. Harris, who was on the hiring panel alongside PCA president Eoin Morgan, praised Mitchell as "the standout candidate from a very strong field."

Mitchell’s leadership aims to guide the PCA through evolving challenges, balancing opportunities for players with the growing complexities of modern cricket.
