Rishabh Pant has been unveiled as the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2025, pledging to "give 200%" to the franchise. Pant was officially announced in the role during an event in Kolkata on Monday, alongside team owner Sanjiv Goenka and mentor Zaheer Khan. Acquired at the pre-season auction for a record-breaking INR 27 crore (approximately USD 3.21 million), Pant expressed gratitude and excitement for the opportunity.
"Thank you to the LSG family for trusting me," Pant said. "I promise to give 200% and do everything in my power to repay that faith. I’m looking forward to starting fresh, bringing in new energy, and having a lot of fun on the field."
Pant replaces KL Rahul, who led the franchise for its first three seasons before re-entering the auction. This move marks a significant shift for Pant, who was with Delhi Capitals since 2016 and captained them from 2021, except in 2023 when he recovered from a car accident.
Reflecting on his approach, Pant emphasized building a team culture centered on trust, clear communication, and a relentless fighting spirit. "My ideology of captaincy remains the same. If you trust and empower players, they can achieve things beyond imagination," he said. "We want to instill a never-say-die attitude—fighting till the last ball. Performances may vary, but giving 100% effort on the field is non-negotiable."
LSG, who reached the playoffs twice in their first three seasons but missed out in IPL 2024, will look to build on their moderate success under Pant’s leadership. "Pushing past your limits for the team, even when your body resists—that’s the character we want and the culture we are creating," Pant concluded.
