KL Rahul Set to Open with Abhimanyu Easwaran as India Contemplates Top-Order Combination for Perth
KL Rahul is likely to open the batting with Abhimanyu Easwaran in India A's second unofficial Test against Australia A, starting Thursday in Melbourne. This match will be crucial for India’s planning for the first Test in Perth, where Rahul and Easwaran will compete for a spot alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Rohit Sharma uncertain for the series opener due to personal reasons.
Both Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, who traveled early to Australia for game time with India A, are expected to feature in the Melbourne Test. Rahul will partner Easwaran at the top, with Ruturaj Gaikwad dropping down to the middle order, and Jurel likely taking over the wicketkeeping gloves from Ishan Kishan.
If Rohit is unavailable, India will face a decision regarding the opening combination. Easwaran, who was added to the squad as a third opener, has been in excellent form, scoring centuries in his last four first-class matches. Rahul, who has been batting in the middle order recently, also has valuable experience at the top, particularly in overseas conditions.
Jurel, who impressed in his debut Test series against England, has since been in competition for the reserve keeper role. He will look to build on his solid performances with both bat and gloves in this fixture, potentially putting pressure on Sarfaraz Khan, who is also in the mix for a spot in the middle order.
As India prepares for the challenging conditions in Perth, the team management will closely assess the performances of Rahul, Abhimanyu, and Jurel to finalize the line-up for the opening Test.
