Key Players Missing as Mumbai Fights to Stay in Ranji Trophy Race

Mumbai will be without India internationals Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer for their must-win Ranji Trophy league match against Meghalaya. The trio is unavailable due to preparations for the upcoming England ODI series, which begins on February 6. While Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will play in the next Ranji round starting January 30, the Mumbai players had already featured in the previous round, with Iyer playing most of the domestic season, including the white-ball tournaments.

Rohit and Jaiswal, who open together for India in Tests, had returned to domestic cricket in line with the BCCI's directive to prioritize domestic matches following India’s recent Test series losses. However, both struggled in Mumbai’s match against Jammu and Kashmir, with Rohit scoring 3 and 28, and Jaiswal managing just 4 and 26.

Iyer, Mumbai’s standout batter this season, amassed 480 runs at an impressive average of 68.57, including two centuries. He also shone in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with two unbeaten centuries and played a pivotal role in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he struck at 188.52. Mumbai will also miss allrounder Shivam Dube, who has joined the India T20I squad.

The Mumbai squad for the game sees the return of batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi and allrounders Atharva Ankolekar and Suryansh Shedge, who was the Player of the Match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final. Mumbai may field the young opening duo of Raghuvanshi and 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who has made a strong start to his domestic career with four centuries and two half-centuries in 18 innings across formats.

Currently third in Group A behind Jammu and Kashmir and Baroda, defending champions Mumbai face a must-win situation to qualify for the knockouts.

Mumbai Squad:
Ajinkya Rahane (capt), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Siddhesh Lad, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Suryansh Shedge, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Avasthi, Sylvester D'Souza, Royston Dias, Shreyas Gurav, Atharva Ankolekar.
