The iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata is set to honour Jhulan Goswami, the former India and Bengal fast bowler, by naming the 'B' Block stand after her. This recognition follows a proposal by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), which will likely be approved by its apex body. The stand will be officially unveiled on January 22, ahead of the India-England men’s T20I.
Expressing her gratitude, Goswami said, "I never imagined something like this would happen. Watching a match from a stand named after me will be surreal. Representing my district, state, and country was my dream, but this honour is monumental. I’m grateful to the CAB for their vision in promoting women’s cricket.”
Goswami retired as one of the most successful bowlers in women's cricket history. She took 44 wickets in 12 Tests, a world-record 255 wickets in 204 ODIs, and 56 dismissals in 68 T20Is, totaling 355 wickets across formats — the highest in women’s international cricket.
Eden Gardens already houses stands named after Sourav Ganguly and Pankaj Roy, as well as two former BCCI presidents, Jagmohan Dalmiya and Biswanath Dutt. This addition is a significant milestone in celebrating women’s cricket in India.
