Jasprit Bumrah has equaled the record for the highest rating points ever attained by an Indian bowler on the ICC rankings chart. This milestone comes after his remarkable 9 for 94 performance in the third Test against Australia in Brisbane.
Currently leading the ICC bowler rankings, Bumrah solidified his top spot by adding 14 points, taking his tally to 904 rating points—48 points clear of second-placed Kagiso Rabada (856). The only other Indian bowler to achieve this feat was R Ashwin, who reached the same tally in December 2016 after the fourth Test against England in Mumbai.
Bumrah, the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing five-match Border-Gavaskar Series with 21 dismissals in six innings at an average of 10.90, now has the opportunity to surpass Ashwin’s record when India and Australia face off in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. The series is currently tied at 1-1.
In the batting rankings, Travis Head climbed to fourth place following his stellar performances—152 in Brisbane and a century in Adelaide. He surpassed Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Joe Root remains atop the chart. Steven Smith’s 101 in Brisbane propelled him into the top ten, claiming the tenth spot. However, Rishabh Pant has dropped out of the top ten.
In ODIs, Heinrich Klaasen’s consistency with three consecutive fifties against Pakistan boosted him eight spots to fifth on the batting table. Pakistan’s opener Saim Ayub, with scores of 109, 25, and 101 in a 3-0 series sweep against South Africa, climbed 57 positions to a career-best 23rd.
Babar Azam remains the top-ranked ODI batter, followed by India’s Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in second and third positions, respectively.
