IPL 2025 Mega Auction Scheduled for November 24-25 in Jeddah, Clashes with India-Australia Test
The IPL 2025 mega auction is set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25, marking the second consecutive year the event will be held overseas, following Dubai in 2024. This year’s auction will clash with the third and fourth days of the first Test between India and Australia in Perth.
The mega auction, which happens once every three years, is spread over two days as IPL franchises build their squads for the 2025-2027 seasons. A total of 1574 players (1165 Indian and 409 overseas) have registered for the auction, which will take place at the Abady Al Johar Arena (Benchmark Arena). Teams will be looking to fill 204 available slots, with each franchise allowed to retain up to six players.
The retention process for IPL 2025 saw 46 players held back by their franchises by October 31. Notable retentions included Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klaasen at INR 23 crore and Mumbai Indians retaining key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav for INR 75 crore. Franchises have a total purse of INR 120 crore to build their squads, with Punjab Kings having the highest remaining purse (INR 110.5 crore) and Rajasthan Royals the lowest (INR 41 crore).
The auction also introduces the Right-to-Match (RTM) option, where teams can buy back players after the highest bid. Punjab Kings have the most RTM options (four), while teams like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Gujarat Titans have just one each.
