India’s Under-19 women's team defended their T20 World Cup title in style, winning back-to-back championships with a dominant performance against South Africa. Their spinners played a key role in restricting South Africa to a low total of 82 runs before India easily chased it down in 11.2 overs. G Trisha was the star of the match, performing exceptionally with both bat and ball.
India’s Bowlers Shine
South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first. They started well, with Jemma Botha hitting two boundaries in the first over. However, trouble began in the very next over when Parunika Sisodia bowled Simone Lourens for zero.
India’s bowlers quickly took control, with Shabnam Shakil dismissing Botha thanks to a fantastic catch by wicketkeeper G Kamalini. Soon after, Aayushi Shukla struck on her very first ball, bowling out Diara Ramlakan. By the end of the powerplay, South Africa was struggling at 29 for 3.
India’s spinners kept things tight, not allowing a single boundary between the 7th and 14th over. The pressure led to more wickets, as Trisha removed South Africa’s captain, Kayla Reyneke, and Shukla bowled Karabo Meso.
South Africa’s Mieke van Voorst tried to fight back, finally breaking the boundary drought after 56 balls and scoring a few more runs. But Trisha struck twice in the 18th over, dismissing both van Voorst and Seshnie Naidu, stopping South Africa’s momentum once again.
In the final overs, Vaishnavi Sharma and Sisodia cleaned up the lower order, with five wickets falling in just 14 balls. South Africa was all out for 82 runs.
Trisha Leads the Chase
India started aggressively, with Trisha smashing three fours in her first five balls. She continued her attacking play, hitting three more boundaries off leg-spinner Naidu in the fourth over. Although India lost Kamalini, Trisha and Sanika Chalke ensured that the chase remained smooth.
Trisha had a lucky escape when she was dropped on 38, but by then, the match was already in India’s hands. Chalke finished the chase in the 12th over with a boundary, sealing a comfortable win for India.
Trisha’s outstanding tournament performance saw her finish as the highest run-scorer (309 runs). She was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament for her all-round brilliance.
With this victory, India became the first team to win back-to-back Under-19 T20 World Cup titles, showcasing their dominance in women’s youth cricket.
