India Beat Sri Lanka to Top Group A in Women’s U19 T20 World Cup

India claimed the top spot in Group A with a commanding 60-run win over Sri Lanka in a high-stakes clash on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur. The victory capped India’s unbeaten run in the group stage of the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025. Earlier in the day, West Indies secured their Super Six berth by eliminating Malaysia.

Batting first, India recovered from an early setback to post 118 for 9, thanks to a crucial 44-ball 49 by Gongadi Trisha. After losing two wickets within four balls, India were struggling at 17 for 2, but Trisha steadied the innings, taking them to 78 for 4. Late contributions from Mithila Vinod and VJ Joshitha helped India reach a strong total.

In reply, Sri Lanka’s chase never took off as they lost a wicket in each of the first five overs. Shabnam Shakil and VJ Joshitha picked up two wickets apiece, while a run-out further dented Sri Lanka's hopes.

Rashmika Sewwandi tried to revive the innings with a 21-run stand for the sixth wicket, but India’s bowlers, led by Parunika Sisodia and Ayushi Shukla, struck back with three wickets in three overs, sealing the game. Sri Lanka's lower order survived the final ten overs but fell well short, finishing at 58 for 9.

India’s all-around performance ensures their dominance in the group stage, while Sri Lanka also move on to the Super Six stage despite the loss.
