England Defeat New Zealand to Secure Semi-Final Spot in Women’s U19 T20 World Cup

England claimed a dominant victory over New Zealand to secure their place in the semi-finals of the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, joining India, Australia, and South Africa in the final four.

Fast bowler Tilly Corteen-Coleman (4-0-8-4) and offspinner Prisha Thanawala (4-1-19-3) were the stars of the show, sharing seven wickets to dismiss New Zealand for just 89 runs in Kuching, Malaysia. Despite losing four wickets during their chase, England’s openers, Davina Perrin and Jemima Spence, laid a solid foundation, ensuring a comfortable win in 11.4 overs.

New Zealand’s campaign came to a disappointing end, managing only two wins in five matches. Kate Irwin (35 off 26) provided a bright start, but her dismissal in the ninth over by Trudy Johnson triggered a collapse. Johnson picked up two wickets, while Phoebe Brett and Thanawala cleaned up the middle order. Thanawala dismissed Eve Wolland and added two more in the 17th over before Corteen-Coleman wrapped up the innings with a brilliant spell, taking three wickets in the final over.

Perrin set the tone for England’s chase, smashing 21 off 15 balls, which made her the competition’s leading run-scorer. Despite a mini-collapse that saw three wickets fall in quick succession, Spence stabilized the innings with steady scoring. After her dismissal, Charlotte Stubbs and Katie Jones completed the chase with ease, securing victory with 50 balls to spare.
