Beau Webster Joins Warwickshire Ahead of WTC Final

Australian allrounder Beau Webster will gear up for the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final by joining Warwickshire for a three-month stint in the County Championship and T20 Blast. Webster's contract runs from May to July, allowing him to feature in both formats for the Bears.

However, his participation in the T20 Blast will be limited if, as expected, he is named in Australia's squad for the WTC final against South Africa, scheduled for June 11-15 at Lord’s.

Webster made an impressive Test debut earlier this month, scoring 96 runs, including a half-century in the first innings, to help Australia secure a 3-1 series victory over India and a spot in the final. Following his recent performances, he has also been selected for Australia’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, putting him in contention for the WTC final and the subsequent Test series against the West Indies in late June.

Webster’s time at Warwickshire will mark his third consecutive season in county cricket, following previous stints with Essex in 2023 and Gloucestershire in 2024. His performances in the UK, particularly during Gloucestershire's strong T20 Blast campaign last summer, have significantly boosted his reputation.

"I'm thrilled to join Warwickshire for part of the 2025 season," Webster said. "Playing Birmingham League cricket in the past has given me great memories of the area, and I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of Championship cricket last summer with Gloucestershire."

Warwickshire head coach Mark Robinson expressed his excitement about the signing. "We’re delighted Beau has decided to join us. Since our initial discussions, he has made his international debut, which highlights the esteem in which he is held by Australia’s selectors. His allround abilities will bring excellent balance to our side in both the Championship and the Blast."

Webster is set to compete with Cameron Green for a spot in Australia's final XI, with Green’s return dependent on his recovery from a back injury sustained in September. Meanwhile, other Australian Test players not involved in the IPL or PSL may also seek county contracts to prepare for the WTC final. On the South African side, regulars David Bedingham (Durham) and Kyle Verreynne (Nottinghamshire) have already secured deals.
