Ayush Mhatre Becomes Youngest to Score 150+ in Men’s List A Cricket

Mumbai's Ayush Mhatre etched his name into the record books by becoming the youngest player to score 150+ in men’s List A cricket. The 17-year-old achieved the feat during Tuesday's Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Nagaland, breaking Yashasvi Jaiswal's previous record. Mhatre accomplished this at 17 years and 168 days, bettering Jaiswal's 2019 effort of 17 years and 291 days, also playing for Mumbai.

Mhatre delivered a sensational knock of 181 off just 117 balls, smashing 11 sixes and 15 fours to propel Mumbai to a massive total of 403 for 7 in their 50 overs. Having made his debut earlier this season, the local talent has quickly become a mainstay in the Mumbai squad across formats.

Mhatre was part of the historic Irani Cup-winning Mumbai team that ended a 27-year title drought by defeating Rest of India in October. On his Ranji Trophy debut, he impressed with a gritty 52 off 71 balls, though Mumbai lost their season opener to Baroda.

The young batter continued his stellar form with a remarkable 176 off 232 balls, featuring 22 fours and four sixes, to guide Mumbai to a nine-wicket victory over Maharashtra. Despite a few quiet games against Tripura and Odisha, Mhatre roared back with a second first-class century—116 off 149 balls with 12 fours and three sixes—against Services.

His performances earned him a spot in India’s Under-19 squad for the Men's Asia Cup, where he notched fifties against Japan (54) and UAE (67 not out) before falling cheaply in the final, which India lost to Bangladesh.

Although he missed Mumbai's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title-winning campaign, Mhatre began the Vijay Hazare Trophy with an impressive 78 in a high-scoring game against Karnataka. His latest record-breaking innings cements his position as one of India's brightest young talents, with plenty more milestones likely to follow.
