Anmolpreet Singh Smashes Third-Fastest List A Century in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Anmolpreet Singh, Punjab’s top-order batter, etched his name into the record books by smashing the third-fastest century in List A cricket. His whirlwind 35-ball ton places him behind only Jake Fraser-McGurk (29 balls) and AB de Villiers (31 balls) on the all-time list of fastest List A centuries.

Batting at No. 3 against Arunachal Pradesh in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Ahmedabad, Anmolpreet walked in during the second over following captain Abhishek Sharma's dismissal. He reached his century in spectacular fashion, hammering 11 fours and eight sixes. Among Arunachal's bowlers, offspinner Techi Neri bore the brunt of Anmolpreet’s assault, conceding 31 runs in a single over.

Anmolpreet’s explosive knock propelled Punjab to chase down Arunachal’s total of 164 in just 12.5 overs for a commanding nine-wicket victory. He finished unbeaten on 115 off 45 balls, adding another six and a four after reaching his century. Prabhsimran Singh, opening with Abhishek Sharma, provided steady support with an unbeaten 35 off 25 balls.

Anmolpreet’s milestone comes in the wake of illustrious predecessors. AB de Villiers set the benchmark with his 31-ball ODI century against West Indies in January 2015, breaking Corey Anderson’s previous record of 36 balls. De Villiers’ record stood until October 2023, when Fraser-McGurk smashed a 29-ball ton for South Australia in the Marsh Cup.

Despite this historic achievement, Anmolpreet, who has previously played for IPL teams Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad with moderate returns, went unsold in the latest IPL auction.
